Whiplash Award in Ireland 4.4 times higher than in the UK
Earlier this week, the PIAB published their road accident whiplash injury data. This news release offered some insight into the average value of a soft-tissue injury here in Ireland. There was a number of key findings:
- “..On average the amount paid out in Ireland for whiplash type cases was 4.4 times higher than that for similar injuries in England & Wales.”
- The average whiplash award for a male was €18,126 in general damages and the average whiplash award for a female was €19,016. Women receive €890 more on average than men in general damages.
This has highlighted the urgent need for reform in Ireland as our whiplash awards are far too generous. If legislation is not introduced this problem may continue and get worse.
